Tech Stack

Engineered an automated cricket rearing and processing system for NASA’s Deep Space Food Challenge, advancing sustainable protein production for space missions.

As part of NASA and CSA’s international Deep Space Food Challenge, our team designed and built a fully automated system for rearing, harvesting, and processing crickets as a sustainable protein source for deep space missions.
We engineered a network of microcontroller-based modules—each controlling critical aspects such as feeding, climate regulation, waste management, and automated harvesting. An AI-powered analytics platform continuously monitored environmental conditions, optimized growth cycles, and generated actionable alerts, ensuring consistent yield and efficiency.
This system demonstrated robust scalability, low maintenance, and food safety compliance, helping the client successfully advance to the final stage of the competition. The solution reduced manual labor by over 80% and paved the way for self-sustaining food production in extreme environments.
